Hell’s Gate National Park is on the floor of the Rift Valley between Longonot and Naivasha. It got its name from the narrow break in the cliffs that are believed to be once a tributary of a prehistoric lake that fed early humans in the Rift Valley. Hell’s gate is a small national park, where you can interact with a wide variety of wildlife and scenery. It has a diverse topography and geological scenery. This includes the Fischer’s Tower and Central Tower and Hell’s Gate Gorge. Hot springs geysers are common features in the area. Geothermal stations of Olkaria are within its borders. Wildlife inventory includes buffalo, giraffe, zebra, eland, hartebeest, gazelles, antelope, reedbuck, baboon and hyrax. The predators include hyenas, serval cat and the occasional sighting of leopard and lions. There are over one hundred species of birds. It is the home of the bearded vulture – ‘Lammergeyer vulture’
The park is popular for hiking, cycling, biking, horse riding, rock climbing and camping.
